Keep Baboons and Monkeys Away From Golf Club Halfway Houses (Humanely)

Halfway houses are a primate magnet: food smells, open decks, bins, and predictable routines. Once baboons or monkeys get rewarded, they return—often bolder each time.

Why our deterrent systems produce results

Our approach works because it changes the cost/benefit of approaching the halfway house.

  • Creates a deterrent “boundary” where it matters. We place deterrent zones around the real approach routes—deck edges, doors/windows, serving hatches and bin routes—so approaching becomes uncomfortable enough to abandon the attempt.

  • Layered coverage closes the loopholes. A single deterrent point leaves gaps. We typically combine a higher-elevation point (covering approach lines) with wall-mounted perimeter points (covering the building/deck). If they switch routes, they meet another boundary.

  • Consistency beats chasing, Shouting and chasing is random and staff-dependent. Our systems run consistently in the background, reducing repeat visits because the halfway house stops being an “easy win”.

What “success” looks like

No ethical provider can promise 24/7 primate-free. But with the right layout, you can expect fewer approaches, less lingering, reduced boldness, and calmer service for staff and guests.

What we need from you (2 minutes)

Send us a short walkaround video of the halfway house (outside facing the building), plus the bin/refuse area and deck. We’ll propose a practical, site-specific solution. Go to https://www.monkeybizness.co.za/commercial for further technical insight as well as submission form.

Create safe distances between primates and people — without harm.
